Stephen Burnage joined the Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers as Musical Director in June 2006. Steve has served as the Musical Director of the Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers since June 2006 following successful engagements with the South Yorkshire Police Male Voice Choir, Sheffield Limelight Theatre company, Sheffield Light Opera Company; and Gainsborough Choral Society. Professionally, Steve runs an education consultancy company ‘Simply Coaching Ltd’ delivering educational training within the UK, Europe and the Middle East. He also tutors for the Open University and the National College for School Leaders. He has spent more than 27 years supporting music and high quality learning and teaching in schools. Originally a music teacher, he rose swiftly to become head of faculty and he has held senior management positions in inner city, urban and rural secondary schools including time as a Head Teacher of an inner city comprehensive school. Musically, Steve composes and arranges music, specialising in music for voices; he is an accomplished pianist, singer and bass player. Simon Corner, BMus (Hons) - Accompanist
Simon Corner was born in Doncaster and began studying piano when he was 6 years old. He went on to study Music at the University of Hull, graduating in 1998 with a BMus(Hons) degree. Whilst at Hull University, Simon studied organ (with John Scott-Whiteley - York Minster), piano and Harpsichord. He was appointed Director of Chapel Music and accompanist to many University groups. He was also musical director for many shows and productions. Since University, Simon has continued to play for many diverse musical ensembles, from classical to jazz and rock, regularly deputising at short notice! He is in high demand as an Organist and liturgical musician throughout the area. As well as being the Wheatsheaf Choir’s accompanist since 1997, Simon is also teaching music at Queen Elizabeth's School, Gainsborough, is pianist for the Gainsborough Choral Society and is also Director of Music at St. Wilfrith’s Church, Doncaster.
If you are aged 12+, female and interested in singing then why not join the DONCASTER WHEATSHEAF SINGERS. Rehearsals are held every Monday from 7pm to 9pm. The choir is a friendly and sociable group of around thirty voices who are keen to welcome new singers. Although it is not vital that you read music, it is important that you can make a regular commitment to our Monday evening rehearsals and, after a period spent learning our repertoire, commit to our concerts.
